How to become a holiday rep

If you are looking to find a secure job working abroad, you may want to consider becoming a holiday rep. All the big tour operators hire reps through the Summer and Winter seasons.

Resorts such as Magaluf, Zante and Ibiza have become a popular retreat for a lot of young adults. It is a way that you can have fun, whilst earning at the same time.

Not only will you get paid and build your skills, but you can also make new friends and have new exciting experiences.

We have created a guide to getting a job as a holiday rep, so you have all the information you need.

What is a Holiday Rep?

Your role is going to include looking after holidaymakers and to make sure they have a great time.  Essentially, you are representing a holiday company and you will assist them with activities and accommodation. Customer service is key for this job, as you are the first point of contact when they have a question.

Some examples of tasks you may be asked to do are:

  • Meet & greet: Perhaps at the airport or when they arrive in the resort.
  • Introductory talks: you may be asked to give a welcome session to go through the basics and answer any questions.
  • Arranging activities: prepare for some sales, as you may get some commission for selling tickets to certain events.
  • Paperwork! Expect some admin, health and safety are important in this role.

What qualifications do I need?

One of the most common questions is knowing what qualifications an employer may look for when applying to become a rep. The good news is that most of the time, managers will focus on your personality and attitude over any exam results. For this role, you must be outgoing and energetic and have great people skills.

There may however be some businesses that require at least four GCSE grades of C and above. In addition, if you have a background in travel and tourism this can be advantageous.

If you speak multiple languages then you are going to be highly sought after, but don’t worry if you only speak English, as fluent English is a must in any holiday rep post.

How much do Holiday Reps get paid?

Naturally, you will want to know how much money a holiday rep gets paid. Of course, you may be wanting this job for the experience, but you also want to make a good living too.

The salaries are very diverse depending on the resort you work in. Normally receive a salary, as well as having the opportunity to earn a commission for selling events. You may even get tips if you can build a great report with holidaymakers!

Most of the resorts that we offer at Ace Working Holidays have affordable living costs, so you can potentially save some money if you are careful. Ibiza can be slightly more expensive, but the salaries are much higher than for example, Kavos & Malia.
