The sun is shining, the sky is blue, and you’re ready for your first summer season working abroad. You have your sun cream at the ready, your beach towel packed, and you can’t wait to get started. But before you go, there are a few things you need to know about surviving your first summer job. So here you will find some tips on how to make the most of your time, enjoy yourself and stay safe.
1) Make sure you research the destination thoroughly
This includes the cost of living, the climate, what type of work you will be doing and what the local culture is like. It’s essential to be prepared for all eventualities so that you can make the most of your time working abroad.
If you are unsure about anything, don’t hesitate to ask your employer, Ace Rep or someone who has been there before. They will be able to give you first-hand advice and help put your mind at ease.

2) Don’t go it alone!
Although it would be great to go with your best friends, this isn’t always possible and circumstances don’t always align. This doesn’t mean you have to go out alone though! By choosing a working holiday company like Ace, you can travel with like-minded people and make new life-long friendships.
With your assigned rep, you will have someone to rely on if you have any questions. You also get access to the Ace social media groups where you can connect with other people in the same situation as you. Going solo can be daunting, but if you do it with someone by your side, then it will make the whole experience much more enjoyable.

3) Be sure to budget for unexpected expenses
When you’re working abroad, it’s crucial to have a contingency fund for any unexpected costs. This could include things like medical expenses, visa fees or travel delays. Of course, it’s always better to be safe than sorry, so make sure you have enough money set aside just in case you need it.
In addition, remember to factor in the cost of living in your destination. This includes things like food, accommodation and transport. Again, make sure you research this before you go so that you know what to expect. Budgeting may not be the most exciting task, but it’s crucial for making sure your time working abroad is enjoyable and stress-free.
4) Have a shortlist of preferred jobs
When you’re looking for work abroad, it’s important to have a few different options in mind. This way, if one job doesn’t work out, you have others to fall back on. It can be tempting just to take the first job offer that comes your way, but it’s important to make sure that it’s the right fit for you.
Once you start working, you may find that it’s not what you expected or that the hours are too long. If this happens, don’t be afraid to look for another job. There are plenty of opportunities out there, so don’t settle for something that isn’t right for you.

5) Pack smart – and don’t forget the sunscreen!
When you’re packing for your summer season working abroad, it’s important to pack smart. This means taking into account the climate of your destination and what type of work you will be doing. Also remember, you can buy most things out there, so pack the essentials and make a list of what you could grab whilst in the resort to save on luggage space. You will spend most of the time in shorts and swimwear, but if you go early or late season a hoodie always comes in handy!
If you’re going to be spending time in the sun, then you need to make sure you have sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the heat. Dehydration is also a risk when working in hot weather, so be sure to drink plenty of water and take regular breaks in the shade.
6) Take it easy on the alcohol and look after yourself
It’s easy to get caught up in the party scene when you’re working abroad, but it’s important to take it easy on the alcohol. This is especially true if you’re working in a hot climate, as alcohol can dehydrate you and make you more susceptible to sunburn.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy yourself – just be sure to drink responsibly and know your limits. If you start to feel unwell, be sure to rest and rehydrate. And if you’re ever in doubt, don’t hesitate to ask a friend or colleague for help.
7) Learn a few quick and easy recipes
One of the best things about working abroad is trying new foods from all over the world. However, eating out all the time can get expensive, so it’s a good idea to learn a few quick and easy recipes that you can make in your downtime. This way, you can still enjoy some of your favourite dishes without breaking the bank. There are plenty of resources available online, so doing a bit of research beforehand will pay off in the long run.

8) Pay your rent on time
One of the most important things to remember when working abroad is to pay your rent on time. This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s easy to forget when you’re caught up in the excitement of your new surroundings.
If you’re not sure when your rent is due, be sure to ask your landlord or property manager. They will be able to give you a clear schedule so that you can make sure you never miss a payment. And if you ever do find yourself in a tight spot, don’t be afraid to ask for help from your friends or family.
9) Don’t pack anything too valuable
This may seem like an obvious one, but it’s important to remember that working abroad is often a different experience from traveling. For example, when you’re working, you won’t have as much time to explore your surroundings or take part in tourist activities.
Because of this, it’s important to pack lightly and only bring items that you really need. This way, you won’t have to worry about losing anything or having it stolen. And if you do need anything else, chances are you can find it at your destination.
10) Take advantage of the reps – they are there to help!
When you’re working abroad, you will often be assigned a rep who will help you with anything you need. They can be an excellent resource for information on your destination and can help you with any problems you might have. So, if you ever find yourself in a pickle, don’t hesitate to ask your rep for help. They will be more than happy to assist you – after all, that’s what they’re there for!
11) Have fun and enjoy the experience!
Working abroad is an amazing opportunity to see new places, meet new people and learn new skills. So, make sure you take advantage of everything your summer season has to offer!
12) Enjoy every moment of the experience!
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so make sure you take advantage of everything your summer season has to offer! From the breathtaking sights to the delicious food and all the new friends you’ll make, cherish every moment. Who knows, you might even find yourself wanting to stay for longer than just the summer.
